  Yes, you can host it on a shared hosting also, but a VPS is recommended. Just need to make sure about you php version, mysql version as given in the item detail page.

  is it possible on double optin using the Confirmation Landing Page with custom page url the url can include the users email. So for example it would be http://yourdomain.com/verify.php?email=[$receiver-email$] and it will be replace with the users email? Let me know.

  It will happen if you will use the MailCarry confirmation page, you can edit it and add shortcodes in it, for outside pages MailCarry can't read custom variables.
